Kodiak Area Native Association, located in beautiful Kodiak, Alaska is recruiting for the position of Chemical Dependency Counselor I to provide accessible alcohol and drug abuse assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, education, comprehensive health promotion and disease prevention, outreach and referral services primarily in Kodiak and on itinerant basis as needed, to surrounding villages. Summary of the Position:
Provides substance abuse prevention, education, treatment and referral services by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provides substance abuse assessments, behavioral health intake screenings, educational interventions, treatment planning, case management and culturally sensitive, client-centered counseling to adult/adolescent clients with substance-use related disorders under the direct supervision of the Substance-Use Treatment coordinator and the Director of Behavioral Health.

Networks and coordinates continuum of care with residential treatment programs, detoxification units and special programs of support throughout the State to meet client's recovery needs.

Identifies and assists potential substance abuse clients toward treatment through community outreach or by helping family members to encourage their loved ones to seek treatment.

Participates in community presentations and educational opportunities; travels to villages to meet with clients, assist Behavioral Health Aid and participate in village Health Fairs/Events.

Works with Substance-Use Coordinator, and Prevention-Grant coordinator to arrange community substance abuse related prevention activities and events.

Documents all clinical services thoroughly and accurately in compliance with State, Federal, Medicaid requirements and professional and ethical guidelines. Submits all documentation in a timely manner per agency policy.

Participates in Departmental, Clinical Staff and Peer Supervision meetings to case current client's treatment progress and determining treatment recommendations for new clients.

Conducts on-call crisis interventions for substance abuse clients at medical clinic and hospital when required.

Works closely with community referral sources; Physicians, Kodiak ASAP, Department of Juvenile Justice, PKICC, Office of Children's Services, Adult Probation etc. to provide treatment, and compliance documentation.

May participate on the Opioid Review Committee.

Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or general education degree (GED); Currently State of Alaska Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor Level One (CDCI) or higher.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of organization.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Intermediate knowledge of Contact Management systems; Internet, Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.

Ability to fly to remote communities by plane or boat.
